5 best cheap air purifiers
Black Friday air purifier deals: our predictions
A good cheap air purifier will clean your air just as well as a more expensive model – you just don’t get all the extra features that come with the very best air purifiers you can buy.
On this page, we’ve rounded up the best cheap air purifier deals right now. The good news? You don’t even need to wait for the best Black Friday USA deals at the end of November (or a Cyber Monday air purifier deal) to make a saving – there are big discounts already.
Bear in mind that most air purifiers don’t come cheap. Mid-range air purifiers are priced around $250, while top-specced models can cost upwards of $700. However, you can buy cheap air purifiers for a tenth of that – and that’s what we’re looking at here.
Check for a HEPA filter and a carbon filter, before buying a cheap air purifier. The former makes it more likely that a product will actually clean the air; while the latter will filter out unpleasant odours or gases. Here are today’s best cheap air purifier deals…
5 of the best cheap air purifiers you can buy now
1. RevitalAir Compact True HEPA 4-in-1 Air Purifier
The best cheap air purifier overall, with powerful 4-level filtration and UV-C sanitizer lamp
Coverage: 215-269 square feet | Filters: Extended pre-filter with activated carbon, True HEPA 13 filter, UV-C sanitizer lamp | Sensor: No | Number of fan speeds: 3 | Weight: 8.6 pounds | Dimensions: 8.5 x 8.5 x 15 inches
- Buy the RevitalAir AHEP-811001 from Amazon for $64
If you’re looking for a cheap air purifier you can move from room to room, the RevitalAir Compact is a great option. At just 8.6 pounds it’s light, but still a powerful cleaner thanks to four stages of cleaning and a UV-C sanitizer lamp, which kills 99 per cent of mold, bacteria, viruses and germs to 0.1 micron without producing ozone. Most air purifiers rely largely on their True HEPA filter to capture such particles, but by combining that with a UV-C sanitizer lamp, this device adds an extra layer of protection against these tiny particles.
With three auto timer settings, three fan speeds and a sleep mode, which switches the purifier to a low fan speed and turns off the lights, the RevitalAir Compact has lots of options for adjusting its output to your needs within a very affordable package.
2. JINPUS Air Purifier Air Cleaner for Home
The best cheap air purifier for smaller areas
Coverage: 161 square feet | Filters: Fine Preliminary Filter, True HEPA Filter, Activated Carbon Filter | Sensor: No | Number of fan speeds: 2 | Weight: 1.15 pounds | Dimensions: 4.9 x 4.9 x 7.6 inches
- Buy the JINPUS Air Purifier for $39.99 from Amazon
The JINPUS Air Purifier Air Cleaner for Home is a compact and very cheap air purifier that’s best for desk use due to its small coverage area. Despite it’s budget price, it still has a True HEPA filter and Activated Carbon filter, so you’re not trading quality for price. It’s able to trap up to 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns and still remove unpleasant odors, but the air changeover rate is slow.
The JINPUS Air Purifier Air Cleaner for Home is in the $40 range, so you can’t expect it to quickly clean a whole room. But it is through with the air it can reach, and at just 1.15 pounds it’s easy to move around your home or office to concentrate on the areas you want purified. One button governs all the controls: one press turns it on, two switches it to sleep mode and three presses turns the unit off.
3. Levoit LV-H133 Air Purifier
The best cheap air purifier for large rooms
Coverage: 538 square feet | Filters: Fine Preliminary Filter, True HEPA filter, Activated Carbon Filter | Sensor: Yes | Number of fan speeds: 3 | Weight: 18.1 pounds | Dimensions: 24.9 x 14.8 x 14.7 inches
Budget air purifiers for large rooms can be tough to come by as they require a lot of power to clean a lot of air, but the Levoit LV-H133 is an affordable option that’s up to the job. This device takes in air from all sides and combines with its cyclone technology to purify up to 40 per cent more air per hour than other air purifiers.
Its air sensor can also tell you how clean your air is and adjust to a higher or lower fan speed if it detects that more or less cleaning power is needed, without you having to adjust a thing.
It does sometimes struggle to completely eliminate smoke smells, so if that’s your number one priority, this air purifier probably isn’t for you.
4. Honeywell True HEPA Allergen Remover HPA204
If you can stretch your budget, this affordable air purifier is another great option for larger rooms
Coverage: 310 square feet | Filters: True HEPA filter, Activated Carbon Pre-Filter | Sensor: No | Number of fan speeds: 4 | Weight: 14 pounds | Dimensions: 17.7 x 10 x 18.8 inches
- Buy the Honeywell HPA204 from Amazon now for $149
Honeywell is a well-known brand within the world of air purifiers and for good reason. It consistently produces purifiers that really perform – and the HPA204 is no exception. It has four cleaning modes: Germ, General Clean, Allergen and Turbo. Germ is the gentlest and quietest cleaning mode, so a good option for overnight use in bedrooms. Turbo mode can be noisy, but it’s the highest fan speed and will quickly clean a room, removing any odors. The Honeywell HPA204 can also filter and circulate room air up to five times an hour.
The big draw of this model is its power and versatility at a very reasonable price. Cheaper air purifiers can struggle to clean larger rooms properly.
It’s disappointing that the Honeywell HPA204 doesn’t have a sensor, especially as some lower-priced models do manage to include one. But overall, you’re paying a bit more for power and performance from a brand with a great reputation.
5. Coway AP-1512HH Mighty Air Purifier
A mid-range air purifier that still manages to pack in a sensor, auto mode and ionizer.
Coverage: 361 square feet | Filters: Pre-filter, Deodorization filter, True HEPA filter, Vital Ion | Sensor: Yes | Number of fan speeds: 3 | Weight: 12.79 pounds | Dimensions: 9.6 x 16.8 x 18.3 inches
The Coway AP-1512HH manages to pack in a lot of the features usually associated with higher-priced models, such as an air quality sensor, ionizer and eco mode, in a sub-$200 package. The air quality sensor communicates air quality via LED lights every minute of the day, and in auto mode it will adjust fan speed accordingly.
When no air pollution is detected for 30 minutes, the fan will automatically stop, switching to eco mode to save energy. Ionizers do sometimes emit ozone, which can be an irritant for those with asthma, but the Coway AP-1512HH’s ionizer has been recorded as emitting non-existent to negligible levels of ozone.
Bear in mind that this cheaper air purifier doesn’t have a night mode. So while you can switch to a lower fan speed to prevent noisy operation at night, the LED lights don’t dim, so could become irritating.
Black Friday air purifier deals 2019: what we expect to see
Last year, some of the best Black Friday air purifier deals and Cyber Monday air purifier deals cut over 40 per cent off the price. Amazon gave the Dyson Pure Cool Link TP02 Wi-Fi Enabled Air Purifier a 46 per cent discount for Cyber Monday. We also saw the Honeywell QuietClean Compact Tower Air Purifier on sale for $56.99, down from $99.99. And there are regularly $100 discounts on air purifiers from the likes of Walmart, Lowes and Best Buy, too.
We’d expect to see similar air purifier discounts this year on the most popular brands – AIRMEGA, Dyson, Coway, Honeywell, Levoit, Rabbit Air and Winixall – at all the major retailers: Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Lowes and so on. We’ll be curating the best Black Friday air purifier deals right here, so bookmark this page and make sure you check back.
Should I wait for a Black Friday air purifier deal?
If you need a cheap air purifier now, we wouldn’t recommend waiting for Black Friday or Cyber Monday at this stage. There are plenty of good discounts available now, some of which rival what we’re likely to see on Black Friday.
That’s because Black Friday starts earlier and earlier each year – and we’re already in the run up to it now. Over the last few years, we’ve increasingly seen better Black Friday air purifier deals earlier in the month, as retailers look to spread their offers out over a longer time period. Doing so is better for them: the huge spikes that come from a 24-hour deals period can cause servers to crash and stock to run out. And it’s better for consumers too, giving people longer to decide whether an offer is right.
So, if you see a cheap air purifier deal before Black Friday that you like the look of, we’d be inclined to snap it up while you can. However, we do still tend to see the very, very best deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday – so if you’re not in a hurry, and want to make the biggest saving possible, hang on until the end of November.
